New to dressage? Want to learn more about what judges are looking for, the rules, how to read scores and more? Want to try it out in a no-pressure environment and get feedback from judges? Designed for those new to riding or showing dressage and preparing to compete at Intro or Training Level/Basic, Our Dressage Discovery Days is an introduction to all things traditional and western dressage. Take a 30 minute lesson to hone your skills, ride a test and get extra feedback from the judge, watch demonstrations on all things dressage, and learn what judges are looking for with a ringside discussion with a judge, where she breaks down for those who show and those who support them what the judge is looking for in a movement, things that may affect score, and any questions you may have.
Don't have a horse? Not ready to participate under saddle? Auditing is free, and you can earn a free entry in a
GLASS-ED virtual show to dip your toe into the sport simply by dedicating time to learn more about the sport by completing our fun activity log.
Youth welcome and encouraged!
Sign up for up to two tests for feedback, a 30 minute lesson, or both!
Please note - entries are non-refundable, and ALL riders must wear a helmet when mounted, including western riders, per GLASS-ED insurance requirements.
Clinician Information:
Ridden test judge - Jennifer Kaiser
Jennifer Kaiser is a USDF Bronze Medalist with Distinction and USDF L graduate. Kaiser has lived in Michigan her entire life, and grew up with horses since elementary school. Kaiser became involved in dressage as an Adult Amateur, showing for the first time at a GLASS-ED event almost 20 years ago. Since then, she worked her way up the ranks through countless clinics and lessons. She is currently the President of the All Dressage Association and is active in providing quality dressage education to the West Michigan dressage community.
Lesson instructor - Jolene Simons-Bester
Jolene is a USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist and L Graduate devoted to developing harmonious partnerships through classical, systematic training. She cultivates a supportive and encouraging environment where horses and riders of all levels and breeds build confidence, refine fundamentals, and have competitive success.
Ringside insights from a judge - Joanne Coy
Joanne is a life-long student of the horse, with a varied background in all things horse. She is a USDF Bronze Medalist, L Graduate, and USEF Western Dressage R judge, Board member of WDAMI, the Western Dressage Michigan Affiliate, as well as being a Board Member of Western Dressage Association of America and Judge Education Chair for WDAA. Her other horse endeavors have included endurance and competitive trail riding, harness racing, racing harness horses under saddle, competitive mounted orienteering, Western and English pleasure, horsemanship training, trick training, English and Western Dressage, trail riding and camping with her horses. She enjoys working with others who are interested in learning how to develop a partnership with their horse, and frequently conducts clinics and gives lessons. She has enjoyed showing her quarter horse and her half-Arab in both English and Western dressage when she isn't judging a show herself, and also enjoys working with students who own gaited horses. “I haven't met a horse yet, no matter what breed, who hasn't benefited from the elements of training as described in the pyramid of training or the “training wheel”. Following those elements will always make a horse better, happier and correct so that he can live a long and healthy life.
